Accomplishments


Continuing administration of Footlights of The Blue Ridge

  • Publishing and printing performance schedules & programs
  • Maintaining spreadsheet of Revenue vs. Expenses
  • Advertise program via local media
  • Wrote successful grant application applying for funds from Virginia Commission for the Arts; received $2,500 grant for the Footlights program.

Community Events held year to date:

  • “Share a Heart Valentine” event; partner: FC Parks & Recreation
  • Chug for the Jug/Carilion Health Walk; partner: FC Parks & Recreation
  • Pigg River Ramble Weekend; partner: FC Parks & Recreation
  • Jack Tale Players (July concert) in conjunction with Footlights Program

Obtained free consulting and landscape design services from Harvey Design Land Architects for the new FC Historical Society Home. Value of $1,799.50.

Obtained Historical Designation for upper-end of Orchard Avenue from Virginia Department of Historical Resources.

Research continues on The Muse Ball Field with an objective to obtain historical designation for that site.

Issued Clean and Beautiful Awards to 1 residential property and 1 business within the Town of Rocky Mount. Awards will be issued to another residential and another business by month end, August, 2008.

Reached milestone of 20,000 volunteer hours of service to community.

Provided free architectural services to owners of the Renick Building and Edible Vibe for façade work.

Provided façade renderings & service to new owner of Rakes Building.

Serve on Uptown Revitalization Committee.

Prepared book of facades in preparation of the Uptown Revitalization project. Waiting for instructions from town staff on final terms of façade grant and, at that time, individual meetings with property owners and the Main Street architect will be held.

With help of town staff, planted about 70 trees along East Court Street, Donald Avenue, and West Church Street.

Finalized proof of the Franklin County Cabinetry Brochure.

Provided June, 2008 display for Franklin County library.

Prepared 213 tourism packages for individuals requesting information on our community via the Blue Ridge Parkway Guide.

Management of CHC:

  • Visitors for 1st 6 months of 2008 increased by 18.6% over same period in 2007.
  • Rental revenue for 1st 6 months of 2008 increased by 148.6% over same period in 2007.

  • VA Main Street e-training & Networking Initiative
  • International Association of Fairs & Expositions
    (Sponsored by FC Tourism)
  • VA Main Street training session in Culpeper, VA
