Moving Rocky Mount Forward with Main Street America
Community Partnership is actively working with Virginia Main Street and Main Street America to move Rocky Mount toward official Main Street Community accreditation. We are currently participating in the Mobilizing Main Street program, a hands-on process that guides communities through data, strategy, and long-term downtown revitalization.
Becoming an accredited Main Street Community is not automatic — it takes time, commitment, and community involvement. It is a prestigious national designation held only by top-performing downtowns that meet rigorous standards in economic development, design, promotion, and organizational leadership.
Why It Matters for Rocky Mount
Achieving Main Street accreditation will help:
- Strengthen and stabilize downtown businesses
- Attract new investment, development, and entrepreneurship
- Increase access to grants, funding, and technical assistance
- Support building rehabilitation and historic preservation

Community Partnership, the Town of Rocky Mount, local businesses, and regional partners are working together to build a data-driven transformation strategy that supports Franklin Street, activates storefronts, and connects Uptown and Downtown.
What Comes Next
Over the coming months, Community Partnership will continue:
- Gathering input from residents, businesses, and property owners
- Meeting with focus groups and collecting market data
- Aligning programs, events, and committees with the Main Street framework
- Recruiting volunteers to serve on developing Main Street committees
This work represents a long-term investment in Rocky Mount’s economic future — and a chance to shape the identity of our historic commercial district for decades to come.
